Africa’s Travel Indaba 2018, which transformed Durban’s Inkosi Albert Luthuli Convention Centre into a lively hub of activity from 8 to 10 May 2018, concluded as a full success. Indaba has won the awards for Africa’s best travel and tourism show presented by the Association of World Travel Awards. Owned and managed by South African Tourism, Africa’s Travel Indaba has established itself as the continent’s premier tourism trade show over the past 37 years, attracting more than 7,000 delegates from all over the world every year.
“This is going to be the greatest Indaba of all time, and it is all because of you,” said the National Minister of Tourism, Derek Hanekom, at the opening of Africa’s Travel Indaba 2018. He was referring to the 1747 buyers from all over the world, 1120 exhibitors showcasing a range and diversity of products from the continent, and no less than 22 African countries and 80 countries globally represented at this year’s travel trade show. Under the banner Africa’s Stories, Your Success, this show aims to provide more opportunities and value to exhibitors. The online matchmaking system of Indaba 2018 can closely pair buyer's needs with exhibitor's offerings, helping network expansion, negotiation with customers, and making more deals. The system also makes the travel trade show more efficient and productive. Moreover, Indaba kicked off its Business Opportunity Networking Day (BONday) on 7th May for the exhibitors, providing the industry with practical business insights.
Taking the pride of the show was the Hidden Gems pavilion, which again showcased excellence among tourism businesses from all nine provinces in South Africa, attracting many buyers and media. In 2018, the number of small and medium-sized enterprises that participated in the show increased by 50%. Though small in size, they are big on bringing authentic, unique and unforgettable travel experiences. In addition, after the great success of last year, the Lap of Luxury pavilion rolled out the red carpet for a selection of South Africa's exclusive five-star accommodation offerings, which was as wonderful and surprising as last year.
"Many tourism jewels of South Africa and the continent would be on proud display at Africa's Travel Indaba. We invite everyone who is passionate about African travel and tourism development to come and see, meet, network, do business and be inspired at Africa’s Travel Indaba 2018. We look forward to being partners in propelling our continent’s tourism industry forward, together," said Mr. Sisa Ntshona, CEO of South African Tourism.
